The nine organizations were created as a safe haven for African American students in a time where they were not offered the same opportunities as white students. Oakland University currently has seven of the Divine Nine including Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. The general body meetings of the Oakland Fraternity Council take place every other Sunday at 3 pm. ![]() The Oakland Fraternity Council chapters strive to better the communities they’re a part of while focusing on leadership and scholarship. On campus, the Oakland Fraternity Council is seen putting on different social and philanthropic events that are open to the student body as well as brotherhood events that strengthen their own bonds. These fraternities include Alpha Sigma Phi, Sigma Pi, and Theta Chi. The Oakland Fraternity Council consists of three national/international fraternities that fall under the North American Interfraternity Council.
